This is precisely the reason why smaller cross-linked notes and tags work quite well for me, and JD or almost anything else in the past hasn't. The ideal for me involves hypertext + (local, private) AI-assisted search. None of this will replace reviewing/pruning your notes regularly (think: Andy Matuschak's fleeting and evergreen notes), but it minimises the friction.
