I'm still not sure why Facebook doesn't have the "show all comments in chronological order" option as the default for comments on things. Recently there was the worldcup in Blood Bowl, and it was such a nightmare to follow the event on Facebook because every time I wanted to look for updates I needed to first sort the group feed by new and then on every thread I had to click on "show all comments". Not just once, but every time I visited the group.
I wonder why GitHub would ever consider going in that direction, but the developers of these things surely can't be using them themselves.

If you comment, and someone replied to you, and you click the notification, most of the time you'll see random unrelated comments. I really think we should go back to the pure section/thread/post model, with pagination and jump-to-time date pickers. Since the news feed is vaguely useful-ish, you could keep some kind of aggregated recent posts, and notifications are helpful... but otherwise... Social software was perfected in the proboards era. I almost think the model would be just fine for personal sites with a few tweaks. Pretty much anything you can do on the web, can be done as a forum acceptably well. People have used them like Wikis, people share files, they sell stuff. Everyone understands it, it's got almost zero surprise factor, the ability to have signatures keeps the focus on individual people instead of just using people as human ChatGPT servers in matrix pods to help generate more low effort keyboard diarrhoea to scroll.
