Show HN: Vips – Emacs Interface for OpenAI's GPT API and DeepL's Translation API
I am excited to share vips.el, an Emacs interface for OpenAI's GPT API and DeepL's translation API. With vips.el, you can work directly with OpenAI's GPT-4 and GPT-3.5-turbo models, customize parameters for fine-tuning the output, and translate text seamlessly using the DeepL API, all within Emacs.
The tool is designed to be easy to install and use, with a range of keyboard shortcuts for quick access to its features. It's distributed as free software under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
You can find more details, including installation steps and usage instructions, in the project's README file. I would love to hear your feedback and suggestions!
- pmontra 3y agoThere are other modes with a chat UI and no need to select a region. That's very convenient. An example: gptel which can also send a region. However it doesn't do translations.
- mklemp 3y agoThank you for mentioning this. GPTel looks great. I think the justification for Vips is that it is even simpler. I now added links to a number of other modes.

- mklemp 3y agoSorry, there was some unsightly, redundant code in there. I have revised it now. I hope you find that the current version is acceptable.
