Intel Announces Thunderbolt 5 with 120 Gbps Bandwidth Boost
- theandrewbailey 3y agoIt would be awesome if GPUs and monitors supported this or something like it. I'm tired of having to run an extra cable from my PC to use my monitor's USB ports, when the DP/TB/whatever cable might do the job.
- stephenr 3y ago"Something like it", like Thunderbolt 3, or 4? Maybe choices for graphics cards with Thunderbolt ports is limited, but from what I've seen most non-bargain-basement displays have Thunderbolt support these days.
- theandrewbailey 3y agoIt might be a quirk of the gaming hardware ecosystem not having widespread TB support. I haven't seen any Geforce or Radeon cards with TB ports. The GPU and 4k 144hz monitors I bought over a year ago were rather high-end, and none have TB ports.
- stephenr 3y agoIt's not particularly elegant but I've seen at least one main board with rear DP inputs to allow routing discrete GPU video to the system Thunderbolt controller. It's hard to believe that solution exists but not either (a) TB-equipped graphics cards or (b) internal DP ports to facilitate a system TB controller.
