Could someone please explain why it's so bad to do this? Who cares if the site went down for a bit? He could unplug ALL the servers, forever and permanently, if he really wanted to. He bought them!
I understand that some user data is important, and they should have been wiped. But is it really that bad they weren't? It's not like people have their SSNs on Twitter.
- pschuegr 3y agoI think the answer is kind of like this: no it's not really that bad in that nobody was physically harmed and the data was not leaked as far as we know. But it's entirely possible that moving it like that could have broken some data governance laws (in the EU, iirc) and we have those laws to protect people from impulsive, profiteering CEOs. It could have played out differently: some data could have leaked and it could well result in terrible consequences (ask that guy in Saudi Arabia). Just because your self-driving car didn't kill anyone this time doesn't mean it is safe.
