I think there is a non small chance that it was ground to sky lightning cause by electric charged caused through the friction/pressured accumulated just before the quack erupted. When googling for images for ground to sky lightning video cameras often perceive it in similar colors as what was seen on the video, the form also somewhat matches if you consider that the bottom isn't visible (covered by houses) from the distance.
