I saw the introduction of MagSafe as being a quality of life thing for headphone users that use lighting-to-3.5 or usb-to-3.5 adapters, since it allows for charging and headphone usage simultaneously. Just keep the adapter plugged into your headphones. I don't really see the sense in them adding back the headphone port given the form factor and the viable alternatives.
