Visual Studio Code adds port forwarding
- sposeray 3y ago[dead]
- 38 3y ago> Visual Studio 1.82, the newest iteration of Microsoft’s popular open source code editor Visual Studio != Visual Studio code
- deodar 3y agoLooks like it applies to vscode too https://code.visualstudio.com/updates/v1_82 https://code.visualstudio.com/updates/v1_82
- nsonha 3y agoThis has been possible in live share since the beginning. I guess now they’ve just made it built-in and a standalone thing.
- jayemar 3y agoAccording to the docs[0], you need to log in to Github in order to share a port. Can anyone explain why this would be necessary? I understand it if the port is set up as private (as explained in the doc), but not if it's set up as public. Is the traffic being routed through h Github? 0: https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/editor/port-forwarding https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/editor/port-forwarding
- hddqsb 3y agoThe answer is almost certainly "abuse". Traffic is routed through a "service hosted in Azure" (probably not GitHub specifically). They're just using GitHub sign-in to apply per-user limits etc.
- cosmotic 3y ago"Port forwarding" is a misleading name for this. "Proxy through Azure tunnel" seems more appropriate.
