The days of work-life balance at startups are over
- eschneider 3y agoSure, if startups want experienced people who know what they're doing can do that IF a) they're working on something truly amazing and not the next ad-tech company b) have to sort of leadership that clearly knows what they're doing and seem to be willing to share the fruits of success with those who contribute or c) are offering serious compensation and/or equity (and it's been a LONG time since I've seen a startup offering serious equity to early employees who would be taking a serious career risk to work there. Most startups just...aren't that special, aren't that well run, and aren't compensating people fairly. If your company is like that and you're going with the "work-life balance is over, we're HARDCORE" attitude, it's going to be a painful story for everyone involved.
- ilrwbwrkhv 3y agoVCs like Sam Blond fund the most ridiculous companies which have no market fit at all. Then when they lose, it's because "people aren't working." They should be ashamed of themselves instead of spewing this nonsense on Twitter. Like seriously. Look at Sam Blond's invesments: https://www.crunchbase.com/person/sam-blond https://www.crunchbase.com/person/sam-blond A "BTC-denominated life insurance" (complete scam) A "programmable internal tooling platform for developers" (100s of similar products) A "business planning platform that focuses on visualizing data and financial modeling" (again 100s of competitors) So the problem is that Sam Blond and people like him lack the sharp intelligence required to actually invest in quality companies. So they have to fall for random nonsense like this tweet thread.

- ericalexander0 3y agoAh the old buts in seats is the only metric you need style of management. “Tell me how you will measure me, and then I will tell you how I will behave. If you measure me in an illogical way, don’t complain about illogical behavior.” – Eli Goldratt
- RetiredRichard 3y agoSam might have a point, but every boss who spouted the same stuff has always 1) Underpay me despite high CoL at every twist and turn 2) Demanded ungodly overtime without providing thanks 3) Made me medical/dental appointments which caused me to get hospitalized, and then tried to fire me when I was treated for sepsis (from an dental abscess).
