Judges and Police are entrusted with an huge amount of power in our society so if they break a law they should have higher sentences. They themselves enforce and judge criminals. They don't get to "own your life" but I don't feel its unreasonable to hold them to a standard higher than the average citizen in our society.
- alwa 3y agoPerhaps—but if your job is to enforce the laws about what other people do on their own time, it seems like a reasonable prerequisite that you should behave spotlessly on your own time too. At the very least, he knew the stakes well ahead of time, and he knew it was his responsibility to make sure he didn’t get THC in his blood. As a drug cop, it would be strange for him not to understand that hemp products still contain some amount of THC. And although the firing decision only relied on the drug test, the evidence shows that he did in fact procure and use “CBD” products that were above the legal limit for THC content—and thus broke the laws it’s his job to enforce. “I swear, officer, I didn’t know what it was!” doesn’t work for anybody else, so I have a hard time accepting that it should work for the elite cop whose job it is to know better.

- iAMkenough 3y agoIf you live someplace that mostly offers at-will employment and doesn't adequately punish union busting, employers are free to do what they want. While they might not legally own your life, the decisions they make substaintially impact your ability to live. The current workforce system is designed to protect them, not you.
