I rented a few places that had dishwashers and boy did they vary. Good to read that I'm not completely crazy! My anecdata: - whirlpool gold with macerator (pre-2012!), absolute destroyer of any and all food waste. - bosch (2010esque), no macerator, but great cleaner - samsung (2015) might as well call it dish unwasher, made a nice drying rack - kitchenaid (mid-2010s) generally great, filter thing sucks (have to keep it washed) and no macerator makes it get a little dirty, but dishes are clean. If you can even get it, the macerator seems like the way to go for brainless rinse free dish washing. I imagine it's not offered anymore or something under the guise of energy saving. My galpal has a frigidaire from early 2000s that is so loud it sounds like it is grinding the plates into dust. They come out squeaky clean and so hot you can't touch anything for the first 10 minutes after a cycle. Dishwashers are excellent time saver, bring on the innovation!
