Confessions of a McKinsey Whistleblower
- ggm 3y agoMcKinsey will never go away because all levels of public structure are addicted to getting things done, no matter the consequences, because of the vibe of election promises. When your professional public servants can't deliver, you reach for the cheque book and ring McKinsey, or one of the big-five. We've just had a massive "fuck around and find out" moment here in Australia where the tax office worked out the consultants were simultaneously advising the ATO to reduce tax on corps, and selling the "we know because we wrote it" secrets to the corporate sector: Both double dipping, and public policy shaping for private endeavour. Not to mention breaking the implicit bond of secrecy around this kind of consultency. If you want to run Abu Ghraib efficiently, in the end there's only one company to call. Oh, sorry did I mean Rikers island? Same-Same. It would be impossible to write this stuff up properly and not break Godwins law into tiny pieces. Ask yourself who designs giant razor-wire floating balls for border rivers, and who finds contractors to make them, test them, certify and install them. You won't have to go very far from the consultency firms in the beltway to get somebody who will do it, for the right fee.
