Meloni Tells China That Italy Plans to Exit Belt and Road
- simonblack 3y agoCutting ties with the World's largest market is a good way to force your country into a Recession. Good move! "Hi foot, meet bullet!"
- NicoJuicy 3y ago? Germany has more trade with China and they aren't in the belt. Their actions are pretty sane. Ps. Trade imbalance with China is also a thing and China is the only country in deflation. Additionally, there are tons of reasons to derisk from China. Main point is: the road and belt is overrated. Not many countries benefited ( not any that I'm aware of), after 10 years, most participating countries just have more debts and nothing to show for. "Funding" through one road one belt dried up a long time ago.
- toomuchtodo 3y agoChina and Italy face similar structural demographic challenges, and there are stronger consumer markets elsewhere for Italy to pursue considering China's slowing economy [1]. I’m unsure more infra investment in Italy would pay off to be honest. - mensetmanusman 3y agoCut ties, or rethink getting involved in a basic debt trap when the short term gain isn’t as attractive? (esp. as the Chinese economic model falters).
