Good! Every other device I've bought in the last 3-4 years except for my family's iPhones has had USB-C. Every laptop. Every tablet. Every pair of headphones. Every wireless charging mount.
I for one am glad Apple isn't just throwing in another piece of tech that'll either just get tossed in a drawer or thrown away 85% of the time. Need a charger and don't want to pay Apple's huge markup? Charge off your laptop or pay the $10 for a charger somewhere else. Hell, $10 gets you a two-pack on Amazon.

- karmakaze 3y agoSeems that the Made for iPhone (MFi) program negates benefits of switching to USB-C and makes it another Apple accessory cash-cow. Apple is 'evil'--in the sense they're brilliant capitalists. > [...] Leaker ShrimpApplePro has said that iPhone 15 models will only officially support USB-C accessories certified by the Apple Made for iPhone (MFi) program.
- galleywest200 3y agoA charging cable is not an accessory, its a core component. I believe this would also go against EU regulations, which were reportedly a huge point of moving them to USBC.
- CharlesW 3y ago> Seems that the Made for iPhone (MFi) program negates benefits of switching to USB-C… Mind elaborating? I’ve used Apple USB-C devices (iOS and macOS) for years and MFi has never been a consideration, so I’m curious about “the implication” you’re making.
- karmakaze 3y agoTFA lists various ways use of a non-MFi charger could have. The greatest is simply the FUD perception of incompatibility being total rather than partial which seems to be working based on revenue from MFi chargers. Apple is the new MS and doing it better: embrace, extend, profit.
- CharlesW 3y ago> TFA lists various ways use of a non-MFi charger could have. Sure, I guess Apple could limit non-MFi chargers/cables, in which case I'll get suitably upset. But (1) as I say, we collectively have several years of experience with this, and (2) this is an anonymous "leaker" via Forbes, who I don't have a ton of respect for. https://www.niemanlab.org/2022/02/an-incomplete-history-of-forbes-com-as-a-platform-for-scams-grift-and-bad-journalism/ https://www.niemanlab.org/2022/02/an-incomplete-history-of-f... I think Apple will promote the use of MFi chargers/cables for pragmatic reasons — they eliminate risk, guarantee the best possible user experience, and reduce support costs simply by ensuring that they correctly support USB-C/USB 4.
