Ask HN: I want to relocate yo Europe, but don't want to work for a company
Hey there HNers!
Here is the situation. I'm officially living in Israel, but right now I'm nomading the world and living off savings.
I had some plans that didn't work out the way I expected, but I wanted to end up in Europe (preferably The Netherlands). I still want to end up in Europe. However, I prefer not to get a traditional job again.
I was wondering, what are my other options, as a software engineer, to settle in Europe without a company sponsoring my relocation Visa?
- gregjor 3y agoFreelancing, digital nomad visa. Or get a remote job, which right now may prove harder than freelancing. Every country that offers those visas has their own rules and minimum income. Or get married to an EU citizen

- ChumpGPT 3y agoYou have 90 days every 180 days before you have to leave the Schengen Area. https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/schengen-visa-countries-list/ https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/schengen-visa-countries-lis... If you over stay, you will be deported. You will need a VISA to stay longer.
- skwee357 3y agoThis I’m aware of. I wonder what options other than tourist, company sponsored, and student I have in order to be able to legally stay in the country more than 90 days.
- ethermaner 3y agoWithout knowing more about your situation you may want to consider a digital nomad visa if you qualify. AFAIK self employment is acceptable for some (all?) of these countries. Here's one link that may help you get started. https://nomadsembassy.com/digital-nomad-visas-europe/ https://nomadsembassy.com/digital-nomad-visas-europe/ Ah never mind. Just re-read your original posting and saw that you're not self employed either. In that case I don't have a good answer. I'm of the belief that Germany is one of the easiest places to get a visa for but I'm guessing having an income is going to be a requirement.
- skwee357 3y agoThanks for sharing. It is helpful. I’m in the process of getting an income, but I’m working or becoming self employed, rather than an employee. I’m just wondering whether that can help me in anyway get a visa.
