I really do not believe, given equal usage patterns, that ecstasy is lower on physical harm than alcohol. I have immense respect for the work of Alexander Shulgin and his efforts to explore the psychedelic space. But we know that single doses of ecstasy have neurodegenerative effects, with loosely established knowledge that taking it more often than ~once per month leads to compounding degeneration. As horrible as chronic alcohol use is, I don’t think it is anywhere near the same dose-frequency sensitivity for harm.
All said, MDMA offers opportunity for therapeutic upside that alcohol likely doesn’t, so maybe thats’s weighed in there somewhere (probably not).
