If it's plastic in use does it matter? Legos don't get thrown out. They almost never break with the exception of a few exotic pieces that are a big more fragile. Even clips are surprisingly durable. Compare this with dolls, trucks, etc that break after 6 months and do end up in the trash. Phones, laptops, TVs these create so much more waste than bricks that are still perfectly usable 40 years later - I know, I have a lot.
