Walmart cuts starting pay for new hires who prepare online orders, stock shelves
- chiefalchemist 3y agoTo be clear, it cut the starting pay for a specific type (but unknown number) of new hires, but also increased the pay for ~50,000 other established employees. It looks like turnover for those particular new hires is likely not impacted by the pay drop, but there is value in trying to retain employees they've trained enough to add value. To me, what's most interesting is that the other media outlets using the WSJ story as a stepping stone are all following the same narrative. That is, the narrative is about the lower starting pay, and not the raises for other employees.
