It’s not a genetically homogeneous population, so maybe there are some already much better at finding flowers in pollution, and those ones will be more likely to survive and pass on that trait? I’m being quite serious (though not that knowledgeable on evolution science). It’s not like they have to develop gills. Perhaps a minor change is sufficient?
