Completely off topic, and a bit pedantic, but it's "Arctic", as in the word "arc". Interestingly though, from what I understand, "Arctic" has a completely different root than "arc", instead deriving from the Greek "arktos" meaning "bear". This in reference to the Ursa Major/Minor constellations that are seen near the celestial North, and can't be seen once you travel far enough South.
- rjc 3y agoNot off topic at all! The title is wrong and should be fixed! All the OP had to do is just copy->paste :^P Maybe it is just me but I find it jarring when someone decides "Nah, copy /paste is for shumucks, I'll type it all myself." and then does a silly typo some people's brains go like "Huh!? That doesn't look right. What's an 'artic'?". Tip for HN - look what https://lobste.rs/ https://lobste.rs/ is doing: you paste the URL, and it gets the title for you. What kind if witchcraft is that!? ;^)
- twic 3y agoIn British English, 'artic' is short for articulated lorry, which is what we call a semi-trailer truck (I think). So the title suggests a secret truck full of code, out there on the road somewhere.
- 0xEF 3y agoThis is a pretty great idea for a new DEFCON badge. Track the Truck?
- verandaguy 3y agoAh, reminds me of the old saying, "never underestimate the bandwidth of an articulated truck full of git repos speeding down the highway."
- taneq 3y agoOh, is it about the constellation? I thought it was just that there are bears there. And in the antarctic, well, no bears, hence the name.
- dang 3y agoFixed now! I assume the typo itself isn't in the Arctic Vault.
