I don't think this quite covers it because it's not just the rising prices. That's expected to happen, it's that prices are rising but these owners keep shoving their hands deeper and deeper in the customers pocket to "line item" their costs. The application of a "service charge" is just one example. Ok so if you're going to line item this, how do I avoid it? If I get takeout can I avoid the service charge because I'm not getting any service. If there's no way to avoid this line item why isn't this baked into the price of the goods. Why are you increasing the price of your food so astronomically but then also increasing the suggested tip amount to 25%, 30% or 40% for a counter service restaurant where customers bus their own tables. Pay your employees appropriately because you're certainly collecting enough money with the prices you charge.
The pricing insanity is more than just the cost of food that is increased. It's the ever-expanding greed of these people who have failed to wisely save and manage their business in the past and expect that customers will have an infinite money supply to waste on their ever decreasing quality of food.
Especially with so much of the food being changed to a delivery or take out customers are just fed up with this garbage. If the prices were worth it people would pay but they're looking around and saying this slop is not worth it. If I want microwave reheated trash thrown on a plate haphazardly I'll just go to the freezer section of the grocery store and do it at home. The sad thing is when you do get a plate of mediocre food that you've plate $70 for that isn't even presented in an appetizing manner and you complain they look at you as if you're wrong. I'm sorry if you don't care enough about the food to present it to me in an appetizing way then I don't care to pay you any money for it. Especially when your markup is around 700%.
