Flexport Rescinding Job Offers
- SilverBirch 3y agoWell I guess we're starting to see a bit more of the unrest that caused Dave Clarke to be ousted. It sucks for the people who were offered a role, but I guess that this is the start of the pain for the people working at Flexport not the end. If they were already on a hiring freeze, and Dave Clarke notoriously bought in a lot of his team from Amazon, then I would probably be brushing up my CV if I worked there.
- jmyeet 3y agoThis sucks for those affected. Let this serve as another reminder that your (potential or actual) employer will upend your life with no regard for the consequences so you should act accordingly. Don't quit your job until you've started the new one.
- hiyer 3y ago> Don't quit your job until you've started the new one. Is that even allowed? In India at least, every company requires you to have left the previous one before you join them.
- ohdannyboy 3y agoThere's no law against it in the US but it's uncommon for practical reasons. It essentially requires you quit immediately and without notice, which is bad practice and will burn bridges in ways merely quitting will not.
- rchaud 3y agoIs this rule for professional office jobs only? I imagine many low-income people have more than one job to make ends meet.
- hiyer 3y agoThat's probably true. I was referring to white collar/tech jobs though, since the context here was FlexPort.

- ronieron 3y agoLearned this lesson with my first job out of college as an audit associate at KPMG. One of my coworkers found out I was interviewing and told me: "...You should really let the partners know so they don't schedule you dates" Me: "But I don't have a new job yet" Them: "They'll keep you until you find something" Nope. As soon as I told them I was interviewing they were like you have two weeks. I waited to interview until our main annual engagements were over as I didn't want to leave them in a lurch and I guess they saw it as a good time to cut costs in a low period.
- ahstilde 3y agodave clark seems to not understand working in resource constrained ways
- mmmm2 3y agoI mean, as long as he's sorry... I get that they're in a bind, but I don't know why any potential employee would trust them in the future. I had considered applying there in the past, but now... All of their applicants are now unemployed, and have potentially relocated on top of that.
- paulddraper 3y agoThis seems very common tho
- jeffbee 3y agoThere’s a “Flexport is hiring” on the jobs page from only 19 days ago. Flexport has hit whatever the rate limit is for hiring posts for most of a decade. They should be banned from jobs posting at least temporarily.
