Hindi/Gujarati/Sanskrit has mata and pita.
- sn41 3y agoThat's mainly Sanskrit. It has various forms in most Indian languages. For example, Malayalam has "mataav^" and "pitav^" But the commoner words for parents in Malayalam is "amma" and "appa/acha".
- occamschainsaw 3y agoAnd mummy/pappa would be used be used colloquially in Gujarati, apart from the more formal mata/pita and other terms like ma/bapu.
- nojvek 3y agoCorrect. I believe forms of “ma” and “pa”/“ba” are almost universal for mother and father.
