I don't really get this idea that companies can be so vastly competitent and incompetent at the same time. People make new products, if they make something that people want, it gets noticed. Eventually those with a lot of money come along and try to figure out how/if they can also make money on the same thing. It's not some vast conspiracy.

You should take some time to look up the current dockets for antitrust cases before making simplistic statements like that. No one said anything about conspiracy... Anti-competitive business behavior though is definitely real, and growing for people that know about it through experience. Your lack of knowledge concerning how business actually works is apparent in your post.
