This seems like a direct callback to PG's "After Credentials" essay ( http://paulgraham.com/credentials.html http://paulgraham.com/credentials.html ), in a good way. What I get from this post is that we might be in the middle of a credentials shift, from the credentials being good guidelines, to the period where attaining them is an end in itself, the period where people are gaming the system.
