I get a lot of cold messages from recruiters inviting me to apply to jobs that are slightly less desirable than my current one. I've never pursued any of these, but I get the impression that are at least serious. nice to have as a backup, I guess? I also used to get lots of messages from FAANG recruiters, but I never got the impression they would prioritize my application over the general pool. I mainly use LI as a tool to track where my former coworkers ended up. I find a lot of people that would never bother keeping in touch over email are happy to refer you to their current employer.
