Apple buying Disney would be a storybook ending for Iger
- dangus 3y agoThe headline segment that is left out: “but fairy tales aren’t real” It’s speculative garbage. Makes sense for neither party. Much of Disney’s business is basically theme park real estate. Apple has no business being in that business.
- smoldesu 3y agoYou know something is wrong with the economy when the Apple/Disney investors roll out this same spiel again...
- ggm 3y agoBut, one of the classic plays is to buy the company for the bits you want, and to sell the other bits to get out. So, they'd sell the parks to Warner or somebody, and keep the IPR they value. There is also the whole "so explain to me why Apple is in the car business" thing, and the "Apple got Applecore to agree by signing never to sell music" thing: What Apple do now, may be totally unlike what Apple do in 2050. IBM started with cash registers. NCR remained in Cash registers, aligned with their name, and now run ATM backend networks worldwide, as well as selling the ATMs. They operate the fintech behind card processing for a very significant chunk of worldwide banking.
- rubyn00bie 3y agoIt’d be a nightmare for Apple’s margins which it is very unlikely to sacrifice as a favor to Iger. Apple would be more likely to buy the IP it wants and move on even in the best case. I see no possible advantage to Apple’s business, and only an absurd amount of risk.
