Burakumin - "Hamlet people" of Japan
- johnea 3y agoThis is a vrey interesting topic, that continues to reverberate even in modern Japan. However, just linking to the wikipedia page is... kind of lame. This is a great article: https://itsyourjapan.com/burakumin/ https://itsyourjapan.com/burakumin/ And this article points to the high percentage of the yakuza made up of burakumin, because of reduced economic opportunity in legitimate businesses: https://www.nytimes.com/1995/11/30/world/japan-s-invisible-minority-better-off-than-in-past-but-stilloutcasts.html https://www.nytimes.com/1995/11/30/world/japan-s-invisible-m... Another related, but different story, are the indigenous Inu and Ryuukyu peoples...
