Nvidia finally releases a 28nm Kepler-based GPU, the GTX 680
- polshaw 15y agoFaster, more efficient and cheaper than their AMD rival.. it has been a long time since you could say that! Hopefully Nvidia's move to 28nm starts some price competition. - rkalla 15y ago+1 on the Anandtech reviews; prefer the format and benchmark comparisons (they compare more than just the fastest cards, giving you an idea of the bump in performance you might get if you have a few generations old). I have a Radeon 6970 (last cycle) and in Skyrim, BF3 and Arkham City the 680 is just shy of 2x as fast... really didn't expect that big of a gap. The 680 isn't cheep at $499, but my 6970 was $425 new months after release and I've given up PhysX support in the few PC games that support it for nothing (I don't make use of the OpenCL advantages that AMD currently has). 680 overall looks like an awesome upgrade.
- nivertech 15y agoHow do you know if it's cheaper? AMD cards still outperform on price and raw performance 5TFlops > 3TFlops.
- stewie2 15y agoAMD 7970 = $550 GTX 680 = $499 I can tag a brick 6TFlops and sell it for $551
- rdl 15y agoI wonder if they've improved performance of the 32 bit rotate operations which currently make ATI 3-5x+ faster for Bitcoin mining (I don't think bitcoin mining is a really worthwhile use case, but being able to do faster crypto operations in general is nice)
