How to launch your career in robotics straight out of high school
- samstave 3y agoStep 1: Take a year or two straight out of highschool and travel the world and dont think about a career until you do such, then go to college for what your found passions are after widening your horizons. Step 2: dont get married or have kids in your 20s. Youre still discovering who you are as a person. Step 3: ... Step 4: Profit.

- AlotOfReading 3y agoWomen aren't programmed to be spouses any more or less than men are. They can also be both feminists and mothers, or neither. There's no "feminism switch" that gets thrown if someone doesn't have kids by 30.
- RecycledEle 3y agoAs a male, I went through predictable phases. I idolized my dad as a child, then rebelled as a teenager. I fought to get away from my parents. Now my 19 year old boy would do almost anything to leave home to go to college instead of living at home. This is natural. We mature in phases.
- Moomoomoo309 3y agoBecause that's what you went through, it's what everyone goes through? I'm not sure about that one.
- samstave 3y agoThe point was by gp: we mature in phases. Can't argue that, aside from the phases epochs are different for every individual.

- samstave 3y agoI made these suggestions based on life experience. FUCK CONSUMERISM, the entire US economy is a debt-slave-meat-grinder, and if you dont know that, then you are not paying attention. Yes, I tell people DO NOT get married, have kids, or think you know what career path is 100% for you without going out and actually discovering your own individual self. YOUR sentiment is based on blind conditioning of consumerism, and perpetuates the cancer of "society" (when we just literally hand ourselves to the fucked corporate path immediately upon 'becoming an adult' is psychological rape and robbery of individual creativity) Society implies a network of supportive cross-interests... We dont have any of that today aside from "how can I make a thing that extracts money from others with the plastic veneer of 'making the world a better place" So, yeah - dont take that job, tell that MBA to kick rocks, do whatever you want creatively, but find your passion rather than Stockholm Syndroming yourself to some stupid corporate vision... This is HN, we, collectively, have seen countless "startup founder stories" where the founder does some stupid 'zany' thing to express just how 'outside the box' they think -- Take a company like 'White Pajama', which became 'contactual' where the founder had the 'zany' story about why they were called white pajama ; "if you fund me I will walk into the first meetings wearing white pajamas" HAHA what a great founders story... then they got funding and a horrible service over time to rebrand to contactual, and eventually fall to obscurity NOBODY GIVES A SHIT about your weird company foundings, and youll look like a dork when you attempt to do zany things in the beginning of your startup when you become a normal evil corp (TM) THIS is the same as the beginning of your career... dont focus on your career's ego veneer... worry about building a foundation OF yourself. My favorite quote from an interview in the early days of Twitter "... Well, thank god - we have been interviewing a ton of kids whose only job ever out of school was at Facebook, and these kids think that the only way to do things is how they did it at Facebook..." Dont think you have it figured out at 20. Youre a child. Youre world view needs more data points before you can even form a fully formed opinion on basically anything, unless youre a savant actual creating the thought-space...
- dang 3y agoOk, this obviously isn't working so I've banned the account. As you know, I don't want to ban you and we've waited a long time (10 years, apparently, if you count pg's "please stop"), but we simply can't have you posting like this to HN. We still love you and I know your heart is in the right place, but you can't do this here and it's not as if we haven't told you over and over. For now, users can vouch to unkill your good posts, and if there's a particularly good one that you want unkilled, you can email hn@ycombinator.com. Once you've built up a track record of using HN as intended for a while, we can hopefully take another look and unban you. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37302846 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37302846 (Aug 2023) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36899434 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36899434 (July 2023) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36888204 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36888204 (July 2023) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35934216 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35934216 (May 2023) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31749069 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31749069 (June 2022) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29150559 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29150559 (Nov 2021) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26323291 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26323291 (March 2021) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21122340 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21122340 (Oct 2019) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13032577 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13032577 (Nov 2016) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12669213 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12669213 (Oct 2016) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11371285 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11371285 (March 2016) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11334731 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11334731 (March 2016) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11032486 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11032486 (Feb 2016) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7521337 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7521337 (April 2014) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6551124 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6551124 (Oct 2013)
