Thanks for adding a new word to my vocabulary! I knew that silver had antimicrobial properties but didn’t know the phenomenon had a name. I think the material described in the article is a bit more novel than you’re giving it credit for though. The article has an image showing an intact bacteria on polished titanium next to a ruptured bacteria on this new surface. My guess is that the increased surface area of this new material allows for the oligodynamic effect to act more quickly.
