Yes, and at many "elite institutions". Just looking at the roster of the "club" for the sport I coach I see several former NCAA players on the roster. This club might bill itself as welcoming any level of skill, but the reality is as a beginner you are going to up against former NCAA players who have exhausted their eligibility which is something you are more likely to do at an Ivy as they do not "red shirt". I'm really not sure there is a story here other than hyper-competitive institution is hyper-competitive.
