I can never get past the endless captchas on this site.
- willk 3y agoIf you are using Cloudflare for DNS you will run into that issue. It is by design. https://community.cloudflare.com/t/archive-today-does-not-resolve-with-1-1-1-1-works-fine-on-other-resolvers/71315 https://community.cloudflare.com/t/archive-today-does-not-re...
- jzl 3y agoAhh wow, thanks. Indeed, I do use 1.1.1.1.
- tsimionescu 3y agoDon't worry, it almost certainly has nothing to do with that (though there is plenty to complain about with 1.1.1.1).
- sph 3y agoNot the same issue, though it is still because of Cloudflare's shenanigans. One affects their DNS resolution of archive.is, GP is talking about Cloudflare's endless captcha portal on that site. Strangely enough, it works for me today, but a few days ago I couldn't get past that obnoxious screen. I just wish people would stop flocking to Cloudflare and making the internet even shittier than it is.
- iainmerrick 3y agoCan you go into a bit more detail about this? The thread you’ve linked to isn’t very clear on its own -- it seems like it’s missing a lot of context. The first reply makes it sound like archive.is is blocking Cloudflare, but it sounded like you meant the opposite. (And I assume this is all separate from the CAPTCHA thing, as the other reply says)
- randycupertino 3y agoFirefox does that for me but it opens fine in Chrome.
- archo 3y agoChange your DNS - Cloudflare doesn't play nice with archive.today - (think, David vs Goliath) 2023:'public-dns' You may also try an archive.today mirror; https://archive.vn/SlDEe https://archive.vn/SlDEe https://archive.li/SlDEe https://archive.li/SlDEe https://archive.md/SlDEe https://archive.md/SlDEe https://archive.ph/SlDEe https://archive.ph/SlDEe https://archive.fo/SlDEe https://archive.fo/SlDEe https://archive.today/SlDEe https://archive.today/SlDEe However, changing your DNS is the answer to the problem.
- tsimionescu 3y agoHow would my choice of DNS server affect what CAPTCHAs I see on a site served over HTTPS?
- archo 3y agoIf you check my comments, https://news.ycombinator.com/threads?id=archo https://news.ycombinator.com/threads?id=archo You will see I do not have any problem accessing archive.is The Cloudflare vs. Archive.today is a years old problem, thoroughly discuses on HN: And for the record; I use Firefox with uBlock-Origin and Steven Black's hosts file on a Debian flavored Linux. Of course I no longer use Cloudflare DNS
- baq 3y agoCloudflare DNS routing you to cloudflare HTTPS terminator serving you cloudflare CAPTCHAs
- tsimionescu 3y agoSo, is archive.today served exclusively by Cloudflare, optionally by Cloudflare where you can access directly, or has Cloudflare stolen their TLS private keys? Cloudflare can't point me to their own servers when I access https://archive.today https://archive.today unless my browser confirms that the server it's talking to (the one serving the CAPTCHAs) has archive.today's certificate's private keys.
