I was at a pub recently where they had a full kitchen but no waiters. You had to line up around the bar, catch the attention of one of the super busy barmen, yell your food and drink order, pay up, then they prep your drink and give you a buzzer that will eventually tell you to go grab your food yourself at the kitchen window.
They had the guts of slapping a mandatory service tip on the bill and the machine asked for an extra tip. I was wondering what service I was actually paying for...
At this point of mal-service, I'd take an automated machine.. could not be worse really.
Or yes, avoid the experience altogether.
- mensetmanusman 3y agoThis is what an inverted population pyramid transition starts to feel like. Note that every retiree has about 5 workers supporting them. When we retire it will be about 2.3 workers.
- soultrees 3y agoDo you have any more information on this? Or any leads where to look.
- badpun 3y agoPeter Zeihan's YouTube channel elaborates on that in a very accessible way.
- rcxdude 3y agoThose 5 workers are supporting that retiree, themselves, and other non-workers like children or people with severe disabilities. (This is important to keep in mind, because if you compare the ratios without it it looks a lot more dramatic)
- mensetmanusman 3y agoYeah, someone should model the predicted “pain” scale of this transition. I don’t think going from 5 to 4 is going to be as linearly painful as 3 to 2.
