Sony was really smart to include movie playback in their consoles, it's a really good value proposition. I bought my PS2 to play DVDs and play games. I eventually upgraded to the PS3 to upgrade to Blu-Ray and still use it today. I recall reading/hearing somewhere that the PS3 was one of the best quality Blu-Ray players at the time.
