Which signaling protocols are legal and not legal in Bridge? If you've spent some effort designing a protocol, do you really have to say "Alert" and then explain yourself every time you do anything?
- TylerE 3y agoBasically, the legal methods of communication are bids during the auction process (This is where alerts generally come in, although that's actually something set by the ruling body and protocols very from jurisdiction to jurisdiction) and cards played during the hand. ALL other communication is banned. This includes anything like mannerism, tempo, facial expression, etc. High level competitions are played with a divider (see https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/78/BridgeScreen.svg/1200px-BridgeScreen.svg.png https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/78/Br...) that prevents one from seing partner.
- anonymoushn 3y agoThis sounds like *any* protocol that communicates using only bids and cards played into tricks is allowed. Really?
- TylerE 3y agoMore or less. There are some bidding systems that are banned (what and how much varies from region to region). Carding is mostly open, although generally there are some limits around methods that it is… difficult to play ethically.
- anonymoushn 3y agoI'm reading this comment as "Yes. No." and I couldn't find any doc from ACBL or any other org stating that all encrypted signals are allowed.
- pclmulqdq 3y agoEncryption is banned. Almost any unencrypted signaling method is allowed. Your opponents must be informed of your agreements.
