Pretty good just two months after the non-Beta Lichee Pi 4A shipped, and seven months after the VisionFive 2 shipped.
StarFive, the makers of the VisionFive 2 have announced a new octa-core chip (JH8100) that is equivalent to the RK3588 found in the fastest ARM SBCs right now e.g. the Rock 5 and Orange Pi 5. We can probably expect RISC-V boards with that to hit around the middle of next year.
All the software work being done for the VisionFive 2 now will work on those too — just a lot faster!
At this point "It works!" is a lot more important than "It's a tad slow". Speed is coming. And the set of "It works!" is expanding rapidly.
