The defining feature of 'invented tradition' as a term is that it's presented or perceived as older than it is. The 'perceived' part gets weird when the tradition escapes its founding environment. I will admit that I thought ciabatta was older than 1982, but I do wonder what the perception and presentation of it was like when it did come out in Italy at the time.
