- hgs3 3y agoPeople also play games to appeal to their darker aggressive more primitive mind - their "Id" as Freud would put it. It is why games like Grand Theft Auto are best sellers. Even in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 you participate in a mass shooting at a Russian airport. The sequence is a simulated act of terrorism. So I agree with OP that it is ethically inconsistent for the developers to draw the line at spoken words.
- valianteffort 3y agoI have fond memories of playing MW2 and Halo 3 in highschool with all of my friends. I don't think "racism" was on anyones mind in those days and it was an extremely diverse group. There wasn't a racial epitath we weren't throwing around, yet no one ever took things personally and I would never describe any of those people as racist. People these days are way too soft and incapable of dissemenating between real hate and momentary anger.
- Cypher 3y agoUnder new age anti-racism ideology, all white people are born racist. It's a useful tool to supress anyone unwilling to go along with this new age thinking.
- peterashford 3y agoIncorrect. And self-pitying.
- Cypher 3y agoSo says the fun police.
- peterashford 3y agoYou can't have fun without racism and sexism? Really?
- snailmailman 3y agoThis. Games aren’t fun when I’m getting called slurs. It’s just sad. I play a lot of rocket league. I always have a rainbow flag on my car. Every year during pride month I always play several games where I get lots of homophobic comments from my opponents. People using slurs, ranting about how “people like me” are ruining the game. I mute and block, and report these people, but it makes me sad anyway. Why do people go into the game with the intent to ruin it for others? I only ever get those comments during pride month. There’s a reason I play with voice chat disabled if I’m playing with randos, even if it would legitimately help to communicate with teammates. And I wouldn’t even say rocket league is particularly toxic? I encounter teammates that throw games, and smurf accounts, way more than players that say toxic things in chat. I don’t play FPS games but from what I’ve seen they seem way worse, as voice chat is crucial. I feel only slightly better the next day, when I get a notification about how my report got a player banned for toxicity.
