Poland cuts tax for first-time buyers, raises it for buying multiple properties
- chiefalchemist 3y ago> The changes are part of the government’s efforts to help young people buy their first home and to discourage individuals from purchasing multiple properties for profit, as Poland grapples with a housing shortage. Making it easier for (first time) buyers increases demand. Increased demand leads to increased prices. Affordable via this type of manipulation doesn't last. As for the buyers of multiple properties, what's to stop them from simply raising rents? The article mentions that 12% of available housing is empty. Wouldn't it make sense to discourage that? And also give developers a tax break? Else the "incentives" mentioned are only going to be counterproductive (i.e., will drive prices up).
