What Does Smoke Do to Bees?
- rolph 3y agostimulates a 5 alarm fire response. it doesnt calm them down, it distracts them from you robbing the honey comb. if you overdo it, the bees will abscond with the queen, and cropfulls of honey, and follow the scouts to a putative hive location, just like a real wildfire. ============================================= i rarely use smoke, or veils, or gloves, we are all familiar with each others scent, and behaviour.
- ryankrage77 3y agoJust yesterday a friend was telling me about an alternative to smoke, which is instead to sprinkle sugar powder onto the bees. As they're social creatures, they'll get busy cleaning each other, distracting them from guarding the hive. The sugar is also food for them.
