We moved from NYC->SF->Denver->San Diego and CA always pulled us back once we left. My wife isn't from the US and from a third world country. She said something that stuck with me. You have people in her country that wanted nothing but the chance to live in the US and then you had those that hated it and laughed at everything wrong with the country. She said they secretly would move in a second if they won the green card lotto but just make fun of it because they will never get a chance to move to the US. I have a feeling CA is a bit of the same for some people.
