When kids feel the magic of nature, they will want to protect it
- meristohm 3y agoData point of one, but my feeling is this worked for me. I was and still am open to feeling the wonders of nature, rolling in the rushes down by the riverside and so much else. Reading fiction and non-fiction with themes including respect for other living beings helped, and much credit is due to my parents letting me explore and also taking me out camping, canoeing, and hiking. I spent a lot of time at an off-the-grid neighbor farm observing and tending animals, riding horses, and playing in and around stock ponds. I'm now aware of, and wary of, shifting baselines, and am working towards and lobbying for land trusts with forests old enough to span many, many human generations.
