I suspect solar isn’t cheap enough yet for it to make sense. Probably doesn’t help reduce the need for batteries either in the north, since you won’t get significantly more range from it in winter. Every solar panel made should be installed where their power production is maximised or they help reduce the need for power lines. When we’ve reached 100% renewables we can start sticking them places where you get less out of them.
