How to protect against a lawless humanity?

Its a discussion among friends, and the topic of wildlife protection has come up. In particular, how to protect wildlife against lawless times. Poachers, Deforrestation, the assumption that government wants to protect this, given enough monetary incentive, may not hold, if times get bad enough. So how to protect something, against humanity decaying down to a wild "today i life" horde? It must not be wild animals, take something like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svalbard_Global_Seed_Vault - its protected by its remote location. Any idea is welcome. Non-violent preferred.
