I've recently become enamoured with the Seiko Spring Drive. I'm currently dreaming up (probably unrealistic) plans to try and DIY a Spring Drive type mechanism. I doubt I'd be able to actually make it fit in a real watch, but the goal is to have it at least working on a desk. More or less the plan is to rip out the balance wheel/escape wheel and pallet fork from an existing movement and try and rig up a permanent magnet on a wheel, then a small electro magnet connected to something like an Arduino and see if I can even get something like that to regulate the speed of the watch.
