It's incredibly disappointing that this has become the quiet part that must be said out loud. There are probably a relative handful of women in this line of work who genuinely do enjoy it, though whether it's a healthy enjoyment is beside the point. it's just enough a cohort to sustain a core systemic cycle of self perpetuation as the POV of these women becomes the focal point for the narrative of all the people who enjoy or otherwise benefit (i.e. financially) from having women in these situations. The vastly larger outer ring of women who do not want to be there, or are rationalizing their actions out of an understandable need to survive, don't get any press (except the most spectacular and lurid or fatal cases of exploitation or abuse) as there is no money to be made from stating what should be plainly obvious to anyone who is capable of feeling anything at all, as this article does.
