Show HN: A .bit gateway for resolving ipfs:// to https://
bit.site dynamically captures all requests to *.bit.site, automatically resolving the IPFS/IPNS/Skynet content hashes for the corresponding .bit account records. It returns the relevant static content via HTTPS, enabling users to access decentralized networks with zero configuration on modern browsers.
At the same time, we provide global CDN acceleration, striving to enhance the availability of decentralized content.

- billy42 3y ago.bit account is similar to the Ethereum Name Service (ENS). For more detailed information, please visit: https://www.did.id/ https://www.did.id/
- jeroenhd 3y agoI don't know who this is for exactly, but I would recommend registering your site with the [Public Suffix List](https://publicsuffix.org/ https://publicsuffix.org/) to protect you and your users from subdomain abuse in web browsers.
- billy42 3y agoThanks a lot for the heads-up.
- forgotmypw17 3y agoThis is great! Thank you for making it! Any chance of someone being able to run their own instance? I noticed a GitHub link, but no repos inside...
- billy42 3y agoApologies, but the project is still in its early phases and we haven't open-sourced the code just yet. Please stay tuned for updates on our Twitter. https://twitter.com/bitdotsite https://twitter.com/bitdotsite
- billy42 3y agoIf you want to run your own instance, all you need to do is get IPFS node to support .bit domain resolution(https://bit.site/docs/advanced/doh https://bit.site/docs/advanced/doh), and then set up a reverse proxy to IPFS gateway(https://docs.ipfs.tech/concepts/ipfs-gateway/ https://docs.ipfs.tech/concepts/ipfs-gateway/).
- msm_ 3y ago>ctrl+f "abuse", ctrl+f "contact": no results What are your thoughts on abuse? From experience, your gateway will be used by phishers and malware operators. You might want to stay "hands-off" and argue that you're just a proxy and not a real distributor, but your hosting and domain providers (and the victims) may disagree. At least the link format makes it easy to protect the users from malicious (sub)domains with the usual DNS- and URL- based lists (like safebrowsing). But I recommend you to implement a contact/abuse form at minimum, to save you from legal trouble and headache in the future.
- Alifatisk 3y ago>ctrl+f "abuse", ctrl+f "contact": no results Is this your way of saying you searches the site for terms like ”abuse” and ”contact” but got no results?
- billy42 3y agoIndeed, it's an issue. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We'll think about how to handle this situation.
- billy42 3y agoWe've now added a 'Report Abuse' form on the site.
- MuffinFlavored 3y ago“Here is how to access decentralized web services through a centralized web service” Am I wrong in misunderstanding that’s what this is? It’s cool/nice/well done/kudos for doing it, just curious if the snark is deserved
