- blt 3y ago"We can't make this file beautiful and searchable because it's too large."
- dathos 3y agoI think files like this can never be beautiful
- gaws 3y agoThankfully, there's a page[1] to do that. The search part is buried at the bottom, however. [1]: https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/investigations/police-shootings-database/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/investigations/polic...

- ipsum2 3y agoI don't understand when people make up fake quotes.
- cpach 3y agoWhat made you read this as a quote?
- thefurdrake 3y agoPossibly the leading greater-than sign, a symbol used by a lot of software to indicate quotes.
- cpach 3y agoYeah I agree that the ‘gt’ symbol in this case could be a bit confusing, but in the context at least I read it as a way to say something along the lines of “hey, this could be something that might align with Simon’s work of making datasets easier to explore”.
- thefurdrake 3y agoFair. Yes. I was reading it in the style of 4chan greentexts, personally.

- dudus 3y agoAren't there better ways to share this rather than a big csv? Google BigQuery public datasets and Kaggle. Just two from top of my head.
- pgeorgi 3y agoEverybody can upload a big csv to archive.org, or distribute it through Tor or BitTorrent. None of that works for your solutions without converting to something like... CSV.
- dudus 3y agoWell but you can actually use the data without other tools. And you can still easily export and offer the CSV as well.
- lopatin 3y agoIt's only 8728 lines
- Tee3993 3y agoHere we have precise stats broken down by race, age, drug addiction, mental illness, gender identity... This is not going to backfire at all...
- _8j50 3y agoHonest question: what are some scenarios you think this will cause a backfire?
