- Michelangelo11 3y agoInteresting that this seems to be completely counter to what I hear people saying. For example, one of the top posts in r/jobs right now is titled "This is absolutely the trashiest job market I have seen in my 34 years alive."
- Mountain_Skies 3y agoFor whatever reason, hiring processes are now optimized for finding reasons not to hire people instead of for hieing people who can be fit into the role. The optimization is working very well.

- notsurenymore 3y agoYeah it’s absolutely bizzare to me. Even outside of tech I know friends who have been struggling for months. One of them has recently been complaining about how the only sales role they get an interview for turns out to be grifty MLM crap. I can’t even get fast food places to hire me nowadays l.
- Michelangelo11 3y agoRight, same. From what I hear, both tech and non-tech seem to be in roughly the same shape, i.e. getting a job is super tough in either one. The -only- field that seems to be growing, and where getting hired is kinda the way it used to be in tech as a whole before the interest rate hike, is AI.
- ianai 3y agoHere’s one on boomer retirements causing labor shortages dated yesterday. https://www.marketplace.org/2023/08/31/labor-shortages-baby-boomer-retirements/ https://www.marketplace.org/2023/08/31/labor-shortages-baby-... The numbers that came out today indicated increased unemployment. Maybe it’s just as chaotic as it seems. Econ bread and butter is the labor market is one of the slowest to reach equilibrium.
